Fong Kee Restaurant At North Bridge Road

admin

Before I start, you’ll have to pardon me for the very slip-shot photos for this post. If memory serves me right, we were actually rushing to catch the fireworks that night, so it was kinda like a shoot, eat, go, scenario.

Fong Kee has amazingly been around in Singapore since 1948. According to grand dad, the original location was in People’s Park, of which one of its outlet still remains there as of today. However the main outlet should be the one at North Bridge Road (used to be located at Maxwell Food Alley).

In short, Fong Kee specialises in 3 main dishes, namely: Dumplings, Buns, and Noodles.

Fried Dumpings (Guo Tie)

Fried Dumplings, or loosely translated as Pot Stickers (锅贴)

Dumplings are generally served in two styles, either steamed or fried. The ones we had that day was the pan-fried version, where the dumpling skin was a little crispy. The generous fillings contained mainly minced meat, and some diced up spring onions. Continue reading

Al Dente Trattoria At Great World City

admin

I’m always a big fan of Great World City. Its never too crowded, and there’s everything I need for chilling, from Pubs to Coffee joints, Cinema to Video Arcades. All under one roof.

If you’ve been there, I’m sure you would have noticed an open concept restaurant on the 2nd level. Its quite “al fresco” like, such that there’s no roof on top and its out in the open. Well that’s how Al Dente Trattoria caught my attention since day one.

Basically, Al Dente serves authentic Italian food (not very, but pretty decent). Their specialty includes the usual Pastas, Pizzas, and Italian desserts like Gelato, and Tiramisu. They have outlets around the island as well, at the Esplanade, Holland Village and Boat Quay. Continue reading

Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant At Shaw Tower

admin

Looking for an authentic yet affordable Turkish place to dine, well Sofra Turkish Cafe & Restaurant is probably the place. The restaurant is actually tucked away in a quiet corner of Shaw Tower (Beach Road), and ironically its actually more visible from the outside, if you’re driving past, as there’s a huge neon sign hanging on their window.

I can’t remember how we actually stumbled on this place, definitely wasn’t on our original itinerary. Upon stepping in, you’ll notice that most of the waiters aren’t local. Possibly Turkish.  The place is dimly lit, giving a warm cosy feeling to diners.  I’d recommend you try to take the window seat. Though its only on the 2nd story, but you overlook the entire Bugis Street, which I must say is quite stunning at night. Continue reading
